This poem/ song is about a parent who wants the best for her newborn daughter.

In dedication to the recent International Day of the Girl ...

Fly Free, Little Baby

By Rohini Chandra

INTRO:

Hello, my little baby swaying

in the hammock of my hands

Your tiny head in my palms laying

As the miracle from our praying.

VERSE 1:

We’re patting the earth’s soil new

to grow a tree for your cocoon.

Let your monarch raise her wings

That’s the way we’ll raise you.

CHORUS:

Cuz we love you, little baby

Let our love rock your cradle.

So you can swing light ’n’ free.

POST-CHORUS

Swing free, little baby!

Fly free, little baby!

Cuz there’s nothin stopping you

To be what you want to be.

VERSE 2:

We can’t wait for turkey palm prints,

Be grateful on your 5th Thanksgiving

Reach for the shelf, no, reach for the sky

Grab the honey for Mom’s Custard pie

CHORUS:

Cuz we love you, little baby

Let our love rock your cradle.

So you can swing light ’n’ free.

VERSE 3:

When Momma comes home

She washes her hands clean

So she can tie on your wings

for you to defy earth’s gravity.

CHORUS:

Cuz we love you, little baby

Let our love rock your cradle.

So you can swing light ’n’ free.

POST CHORUS:

Swing free, little baby!

Fly free, little baby!

Cuz there’s nothin stopping you

To be what you want to be.

BRIDGE

Turn the woven pages, baby

Of our long family tree, so be

The first to canoe and run in fields.

Let your mind soar wild and free.

CHORUS:

Cuz we love you, little baby

Let our love rock your cradle.

So you can swing light ’n’ free.
